About Player Ratings:
A player's rating acts as a lower limit for the tournament divisions that the player is eligible for. In other words, a player can play at or above his/her rating. For example an A-rated player may play A division tournaments or above (so A, AA, AAA, and Open division tournaments), but not below A division tournaments (B and Unrated tournaments). Teams are subject to limitations of the highest rating held by either member of the team. This includes players who registered for two tournaments in one weekend and earned the higher rating on one day and then the next day was scheduled to play in a lower rated tournament. The player cannot play in that lower rated tournament.
Ratings last for the rest of the season earned + one more season. If it is not re-earned, a player's rating will downgrade one level per season. For example, a AAA earned during the 2017 season will last for the rest of 2017 and for 2018. In 2019 it drops to AA, in 2020 to A, in 2021 to B, in 2022 to Unrated.
A team must win at least two matches in a tournament to earn a rating. The rating earned depends on the team's finish and tournament's sanction (see below). Ratings are only awarded for Adult tournaments - finishes in Junior, Adult Coed, Masters, Golden Masters, Draw, 4- and 6-Person events do not affect a player's rating.
Ratings Awarded for finishes in adult tournaments
*Double Elimination Only
◊When a sanctioned Open or AAA tournament has 15 or more AAA-rated players, a 20% bonus is applied to points awarded. When a sanctioned Open or AAA tournament has 25 or more AAA-rated players, AAA ratings are awarded through 4th place and an additional 10% bonus (for 30% total) is added to points awarded.
✻ Men's AA at 20-29 teams awards a B; Women's AA at 20-29 teams awards an A.
About Sanctioning:
Menʼs Open/AAA/AA/A and Women’s Open/AAA/AA divisions: require a minimum of twelve (12) teams AND minimum eight (8) players whose rating equals the tournament division (for example, 8+ AA-rated players in AA division tourney).
Women's A division: requires a minimum of eight (8) teams AND minimum four (4) players with an A or a B rating (for example, 2+ A-rated players and 2 B-rated players).
Men's B/Unrated: require a minimum of eight (8) teams AND minimum eight (8) players whose rating equals the tournament division (for example, 8+ B-rated players in B division tourney), OR a minimum of sixteen (16) teams, regardless of the players' ratings.
Women's B division: require a minimum of four (4) teams AND minimum two (2) players whose rating equals the tournament division (for example, 2+ B-rated players in tourney), OR a minimum of eight (8) teams, regardless of the players' ratings.
Women's Unrated division: require a minimum of four (4) teams.
Tournaments must meet the listed sanctioning requirements in order to be "sanctioned" as the division. If a tournament does not meet these requirements, it is downgraded.
For Open/AAA/AA/A divisions with eight (8) or more teams but less than twelve (12) teams, OR twelve (12) or more teams but less than eight (8) players whose rating equals the tournament division, the division will be downgraded to the next highest level where the minimum number of player ratings is met.
For Men's B divisions with eight (8) to sixteen (16) teams but less than eight (8) B players, the division will be downgraded to the Unrated.
If a tournament has less than eight (8) teams, it will not be sanctioned and no ratings will be awarded. (With the exception of the Women's B)
